The corpses of Muammar Gaddafi, his son Muatassim and a former aide have been moved from a commercial freezer in a Misrata warehouse in anticipation of burial, a security guard said.

Local military spokesman Ibrahim Beitalmal said the burial is likely to take place today.

The three men would be buried in unmarked graves in a secret desert location to avoid vandalism or the place becoming a shrine.

Asked about the removal of the bodies from the freezer, he said he was unaware of the process of burial getting under way.

However Salem al-Mohandes, a security guard at the warehouse complex, said the bodies were taken away late on Monday evening, where they had been on display for the past four days.

Libyan embattled leader Muammar Gaddafi vowed to defeat the NATO alliance’s attempt to oust him from power, according to a audio speech of his aired by state-run Libyan TV on Friday evening.

“This is the first time they are facing an armed nation of millions of people,” he said. “They will be defeated, the alliance will be defeated.”

The state TV claimed that Gaddafi addressed through “a telephone call on June 17.”

His defiant speech came as the troops loyal to him and the rebels against his 42-year rule exchanged heavy fire near the western city of Zlitan and Misrata as the rebels tried to break the months long siege and push deeper into government-held territory east of the capital.

China calls for prompt ceasefire in Libya

Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi on Wednesday called for a prompt ceasefire in Libya and political means to solve the crisis in the north African country.

“It is a top priority for related parties to reach a ceasefire to avoid greater humanitarian disasters and solve the Libya crisis through political means including dialogue and negotiation,” said Yang said while meeting with Abdul Ati Al-Obidi, special envoy of the Libyan government.

China opposes acts beyond the authorization of the UN Security Council and stands for respecting the sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of Libya and respecting the choice made by the Libyan people, Yang said.
